Moving In or Out of an Apartment in Coimbatore: Society Rules, Lifts and Permissions

Most moving delays in apartments are not about the move itself. They are about permissions, lift timings and a truck that has nowhere to stand. Sort these out early.

Talk to the association 1 to 2 weeks ahead

• Tell the secretary or manager of both buildings your move date and the estimated time.
• Ask whether moving is allowed on Sundays and public holidays, and what the permitted hours are.
• Ask whether there is a separate service lift or goods lift. Many communities do not allow moving through the passenger lift.

Documents and fees

• Moving out: a no-objection or clearance letter, with maintenance dues cleared.
• Moving in: your rental agreement or sale deed copy, ID proofs and vehicle details for gate entry.
• Some societies take a refundable moving deposit or a lift usage fee. Ask in advance so you are not surprised on the day.

Parking for the truck

• Confirm that the truck can enter the campus. Large trucks may not fit under entrance arches or in narrow internal roads.
• If it cannot, tell your mover early. A smaller vehicle or a shuttle from the gate costs more but avoids a long carry.
• Ask the security desk to reserve space near the block entrance.

Tell your mover about the building

• The floor, and whether a lift is available and working.
• The lift size. Large sofas and wardrobes may not fit.
• Any long walk from the truck to the entrance.
• Gated entry, security checks and time windows.

On the day

• Protect lift walls and floors with sheets. Ask the crew to do this.
• Keep a person at each end to guide the crew and sign off.
• Do a final walk-through of the old home, including balconies and loft areas, before the crew leaves.
• Return keys, access cards and remotes to the association.
